    Forty specialists from eighteen Commonwealth countries are meeting in Accra this week (12-16 March) to discuss ways of improving public examination systems.

    The seminar, which was opened by Ghana's Commissioner for Education, Lt-Col P.K.Nkegbe, was organized jointly by the West African Examinations Council and the Commonwealth Secretariat. Financial support came from the Commonwealth Fund for Technical Co-operation.

    The participants were to assess the role and organisation of examination bodies in relation to the rapid expansion in education and the number of candidates sitting public examinations. They were to discuss the various needs in training teachers and examiners, the exchange of information and personnel, and greater co-operation to improve techniques of assessment of examinees.
