    WORK HAS BEGUN ON THE WORLD'S BIGGEST HYDRO-ELECTRIC PROJECT IN THE ROCKY MOUNTAINS REGION OF BRITISH COLUMBIA, CANADA. ABOUT TO BE HARNESSED IS THE MIGHTY PEACE RIVER WHICH FLOWS THROUGH THE NORTH-EAST SECTION OF CANADA'S WESTERN-MOST PROVINCE ON ITS WAY TO THE ARTIC OCEAN.

    THE CANADIAN PLANT WILL BE THE LARGEST CAPACITY POWER STATION IN THE WORLD, WITH THE POSSIBLE EXCEPTION OF THE GIANT PLANT AT BRATSK, RUSSIA.

    FIRST STEP IN CONSTRUCTION NOW UNDERWAY IS THE DRIVING OF THREE TUNNELS, EACH 2,500 FEET LONG, THROUGH SOLID ROCK WHERE THE RIVER BENDS AROUND A MOUNTAIN. BY LATE THIS YEAR, THE PEACE RIVER WILL BE RE-ROUTED THROUGH THESE DIVERSION TUNNELS TO ALLOW BUILDING OF THE DAM.
