Background: A Soviet team of boxers defeated a Kenya team in an international tournament at the Nairobi City Hall on Friday December 11.
The tournament was part of the celebrations marking Kenya's seventh anniversary of independence.
The 16-man Soviet team went on to kenya after a 10-bout match in uganda which they won six fights to four.
Kenya's boxers were very successful at the Commonwealth Games in Edinburgh in July, and in October four Kenyan boxers took part in an international tournament in Berlin where all four won gold medals. The Soviet Union has some of the world's top amateur boxers, and the Nairobi tournament produced some excellent boxing. The more experienced Russians won seven bouts to the Kenyans four.

The Russians took part in an international tournament in Uganda before going to Nairobi. they beat the Uganda boxers six bouts to four. The tournament in Nairobi produced some excellent boxing, but the more experienced Russians won seven of the eleven bouts. This was one of the four bouts won by Kenya.
