  • Description

About 1,000 angry negroes marched to the city hall in Akron, Ohio, on Tuesday and scores of them took over a city council meeting.

They were demonstrating over the fatal shooting of a black youth by a white policeman at the weekend.

A councilman finally persuaded the crowd to leave after promising to arrange a meeting between a delegation from the protestors and the mayor.

The crowd went to the nearby armoury to choose their delegates, but feelings again ran high and the American flag was hauled down and burned.

Police moved in and made several arrests.
