    MORE THAN HUNDRED PEOPLE FROM THE NETHERLANDS ANTILLES TODAY MARCHED THROUGH THE HAGUE IN PROTEST AGAINST THE DESPATCH OF DUTCH MARINES TO THE RIOT-TORN ISLAND OF CURACAO. TEN PEOPLE WERE ARRESTED AFTER A SERIES OF VIOLENT CLASHES BETWEEN THE DEMONSTRATORS AND POLICE.

    THE DEMONSTRATORS, WHO WERE ALSO DEMANDING INDEPENDENCE FOR THE NETHERLANDS ANTILLES GROUP OF ISLANDS IN THE CARIBBEAN.

    SUPPORTED BY DUTCH SOCIALIST YOUTHS AND OTHER YOUTH GROUPS, THEY MARCHED ON THE OFFICE OF THE ANTILLES PLENIPOTENTIARY IN HOLLAND AND HANDED OVER A PROTEST LETTER ADDRESSED TO THE PRIME MINISTER OF THE ANTILLES, MR. CIRO DE KROON.

    THE PLENIPOTENTIARY, DR. E. JONCKEER, RECEIVED A DELEGATION OF FOUR DEMONSTRATORS WHO PRESENTED A PROTEST LETTER TO HIM IN HIS OFFICE. BUT WHEN HE REFUSED TO ADDRESS THE ASSEMBLED CROWD OUTSIDE, STONES WERE HURLED THROUGH THE BUILDING'S WINDOWS.

    POLICE RADIOED FOR REINFORCEMENTS AND CHARGED THE CROWD ON FOOT AND ON HORSEBACK.

    SMOKE BOMBS WERE THROWN AND POLICE FOUGHT HAND-TO-HAND WITH THE DEMONSTRATORS, TEN OF WHOM WERE ARRESTED. ONE POLICEMAN WAS INJURED IN THE CLASHES.
