    Gabon's President Albert Bernard Bongo arrived in Dakar on Wednesday (16 February) for a four-day official visit--the first visit by a Gabonese head of state to Senegal. The purpose of the trip is to bold talks with Senegal's President, Leopold Sedar-Senghor.

    President Songo, who was accompanied by his wife, the Vice-President and several government members, was met at the airport by President Senghor. The two heads of state inspected a guard of honour before driving into Dakar.

    Economic and cooperation questions were expected to dominate the talks between the two presidents.

    SYNOPSIS: It was expected that economics and cooperation questions would domina to the talks between the two heads of state. President Bongo was also planning to visit several Senegalese towns during his stay in the country.

    In a welcoming speech, President Senghor congratulated M. Bongo on constructing a modern Gabon. And in reply, President Bongo said he looked forward to continued mutually good relations. At a dinner the next day, President Senghor said that Senegal would be prepared to send specialist workers and teachers to Gabon. He said the two states wanted to step up cultural and economic cooperation. In 1970, Senegal's exports to Gabon were fifty per cent more than those of the year before.
