    A NINE MILLION ROUBLE PRODUCTION, THE RUSSIAN HAMLET WAS MADE TO COMMEMORATE SHAKESPEARE'S QUARTERCENTENARY. ITS DIRECTOR, GRIGORI KOZINTSEV SPENT SEVEN YEARS PLANNING THE FILM WITH A TRANSLATION BY BORIS PASTERNAK. AND MUSIC WAS ESPECIALLY WRITTEN FOR THE FILM BY DMITRI SHOSTAKOVICH.
