  • Description

Every delegate at the Republican Convention in Chicago voted for Henry Cabot Lodge as Richard Nixon's running mate in the coming US Presidential elections. And the US Ambassador to UN said July 28 he was "overwhelmed".

Lodge told the convention he had been unable to follow proceedings except by television - for while Republicans argued, cheered and voted, Cabot Lodge was struggling verbally with Russian UN representatives over the RB47 plane incident.

Lodge's wide experience in handling Russia at the UN and his popularity in America because of his UN work, which receives much publicity in the United States, helps to make the Nixon-Lodge ticket the strongest the Republicans can offer, say many delegates.
