  • Description

India's Communist Party faces the worst crisis of its existence. It is internally split and in national disfavour over its carefully worded point of view on the Chinese incursions in the Himalayas.

At a meeting of the Central Executive in New Delhi, November 5, the Party did come extensive heart-searching. One faction, led by Mr. Dange, is pro-Nehru in the present troubles. It advocates that the Party should stand by the Premier.

Among executive members at the meeting were Prasada Rao, Mr. Namboodripad, ex-Chief Minister of Kerala State, Bupesh Gupta, and Ajoy Ghosh.

Several trade unions have severed their connections with the Indian Communist Party, some senior party members have gone over to the Nehru National Congress Party and many of its political enemies are staging a mass protest against it at Meerut, Nov. 8.

The results of this top-level conference were not made public. But it seems the Party will have to change its official line if it wishes to out-ride the present storm.
