  • Description

In Bamako, the capital of Mali, a ten-day conference has been taking place for the country's journalists, and other newsmen from neighbouring countries.

SYNOPSIS: The conference is being held at the Bamako teacher-training college, and it is being attended by newsmen from several other African countries, including Congo, Guinea, Upper-Volta, Mauritania, Niger, and Senegal.

The opening session was addressed by M. Cheick Diarra, the Secretary-General of the African Union of Journalists. One of the purposes of the conference and seminar is to help in the training of newsmen in Mali, and to provide an opportunity for the journalists of other African countries to compare their experiences and techniques.

The conference was opened by Mali's Minister for Information and Tele-communications M. Yaya Bagayokon. He told the delegates they would be able to discuss the problems of information facing the countries of Africa. UNESCO met part of the cost of the conference.
