QUESTION: "John dean has said in his recent Watergate testimony that President Nixon know of the cover-up. The White House has denied this. Who do you think is telling the truth?"

IST MAN ANSWER: "I believe the President is saying the truth."

    QUESTION: "Why do think so?"

ANSWER: "Because I have faith in the president of the United States. Both of them are probably lying just a little bit just to create a certain type of situation that is beneficial to themselves."

QUESTION: "Who do you think is telling the truth?"

    2ND MAN ANSWER: "John Dean."

QUESTION: "Why do you think this?"

ANSWER: "Because he had, er, informed the President of the United States so therefore President Nixon is just as guilty as anybody else that's, er, involved in this Watergate."

    ANSWER (WOMAN): "John Dean."

QUESTION: "Why do you think John Dean is telling the truth?"

ANSWER: "I think Nixon has deceived our country enough and I think we've believed him too long and I think this is the last straw.

THIRD MAN ANSWER: "I think everybody involved in Watergate should go to gaol just like these Black brothers and sisters have gone to gaol for petty larceny, for petty debts....and like when this big thing come up with the country involved and they just sitting around talking for months and months; put them in gaol."

4TH MAN ANSWER: "Well I think the truth is yet to be known...er...we have to wait, you know, we're going to adhere to our system of justice in this country, we have to wait until all the facts are in, we've got to hear from Haldeman and Ehrlichman and everyone else concerned with the affair before we pass judgement on who's telling the truth and who isn't.

Background: As the Watergate Affair continues to dominate front pages in the United States -- and the hearings are broadcast live on prime time American television -- interest in the matter remains high in much of the rest of the world.

In Europe, television stations are carrying large portions of the testimony by former White House Counsel, John Dean, sometimes transmitted live by satellite and Watergate regularly makes the front pages of newspapers.

Particular interest is centred on Dean who has said that President Nixon Knew of the Watergate cover-up. On the streets of New York City, people were asked by Visnews reporter Richard Watt whether they thought he, or president Nixon, was telling the truth.
