  • Description

In their International motor-cycle speedway match in London today (Tuesday) Poland defeated Great Britain 69 points to 39 points. Poland, the World Team Champions, got away to an early heat lead, and Great Britain was never able to make up the balance.

Four cyclists competed in each heat, earning points on a three-for-win, two-for-second and one-for-third basis.

Britain's Colin Pratt won the fifth heat, but even then the progressive score was in Poland's favour, 18 points to 12. Poland's Andrzej Wyglenda came second and another Briton, Eric Boocock, filled third place.

After each heat the gap between the Polish and British scores widened. At the eight heat Wyglenda raced to the lead and won, with Britain's Reg Luckhurst second and Poland's Jerzy Trzeszkowski third. The score then was Poland 30, Great Britain 18.

The Poles have already raced against a Scottish team in Edinburgh, and will race at Poole, Wolverhampton, Halifax and Newcastle during their fortnight in Britain.
