West Germany Foreign Minister Walter Scheel met Mr. Joseph Sisco, the United States Assistant Secretary?
West Germany Foreign Minister Walter Scheel met Mr. Joseph Sisco, the United States Assistant Secretary of State for Near East and South Asian Affairs, in Wiesbaden on Tuesday, (November 13th), as part of Mr. Sisco's European tour to explain U.S. peace-keeping policy in the Middle East.
At a congress of the Liberal Free Democrat party on the previous day, Herr Scheel defended West Germany's neutral stance in the Arab-Israeli war and renewed his criticism of the United States for supplying Israel from German territory. During the war, at least two Israeli ships loaded up with U.S. military supplies at the port of Bremerhaven and another was turned away after protests from the Government.
Mr. Sisco has the task of supporting and explaining the diplomatic policy of U.S. Secretary of State, Dr. Henry Kissinger, who was the main architect of the six-point Middle East peace plan.
