    Background: Prince Norodom Sihanouk, head of the Peking-based "Cambodian" Government-in-exile flew into Hanoi on Wednesday (31 Jan.). He received a warm welcome from North Vietnamese officials led by Premier Pham Van Dong and Defence Minister, Vo Nguyen Ciap. Cambodia is now known as the Khmer Republic.

    While in Hanoi, Prince Sihanouk will hold talks with North Vietnamese leaders on the Indochina situation and the Vietnam ceasefire agreement. The Prince has repeatedly stated his forces will not observe any ceasefire in "Cambodia" and will fight on until General Lon Nol's government in Phnom Penh is wiped out.

    After the airport greeting, Prince Sihanouk, accompanied by his wife and ministers, drove to the state guest house.

    SYNOPSIS: North Vietnam's Defence Minister. General Vo Nguyen Giap and Premier Pham Van Dong led a warm welcome last Wednesday for the arrival of Prince Norodom Sihanouk, head of the "Cambodian" government-in-exile.

    He was greeted by cries of "Vietnam-Cambodia" and was embraced by premier Dong.

    Prince Sihanouk has repeatedly stated that his forces will not observe any ceasefire in his country, now named the Khmer republic. He has said his forces will fight on until the phnom Penh Government of General Lon Nol has been wiped out. His visit to Hanoi was to discuss the Indochina situation now that a Vietnam ceasefire has been signed.

    The Prince, who was accompanied by his wife and government ministers, recently said he would sign a joint declaration with North Vietnamese leaders, but gave no details.

    Prince Sihanouk was driven to the State Guest House where he was greeted by North Vietnamese President, Ton Duc Thang.
