Background: It was an all-Chinese final in the inaugural World Cup table tennis championships in Hong Kong on Sunday (31 August). At the Queen Elizabeth Stadium, Guo Yuehua of China defeated his fellow-countryman, Li Zhenshi, in three straight sets making him the first holder of the cup. Two Czechs battled for third place. The minor placing was won by Josef Dvoracek who outpointed Milan Orlowski, two sets to one. First, the final:

In the final stages of the match Li serves to Guo, but after a 17-stroke rally Guo misses stroke.

Guo now serves for match point, which he wins.

Li clinched the championship 21- 13, 21- 18, 21- 15, winning over 62- thousand Hong Kong dollars (U.S. Dollars 12,500) for the title. Two Czech's, Milan Orlow??? serving, and Josef Dvoracek fought it out for third place in the final. Orlowski wins this point.

However, Dvoracek beat Orlowski 21- 18, 18- 21, 21- 19, with this match point.
