    AN ITALIAN RACING DRIVER WAS BURNED TO DEATH AND A SWISS DRIVER KILLED BY SKIPPING CARS IN MULTIPLE CRASH ON THE CASERTA CIRCUIT NEAR NAPLES IN ITALY YESTERDAY (SUNDAY). THE DEAD WERE GEKI RUSSO, TOP OF THE ITALIAN CHAMPIONSHIP TABLES, AND FEHR BEAT OF SWITZERLAND.

    RUSSO DIES IN HIS FLAMING CAR AFTER IT BURST A TYRE, HURTLED INTO A WALL, BOUNCED INTO AN ELECTRICITY TRANSFORMER AND CAUGHT FIRE. OIL FORM HIS CAR SENT THREE OTHERS SKIDDING INTO A FIELD.

    BEAT, SLIGHTLY INJURED, CLAMBERED OUT OF HIS BRABHAM APPARENTLY TO WARN ONCOMING CARS BUT WAS RUN DOWN BY FOUR OF THEM BEFORE THEY COULD STOP. HE DIED ON THE WAY TO HOSPITAL. THE FOUR CARS, OUT OF CONTROL, SMASHED INTO EACH OTHER.

    FIFTEEN CARS WERE TAKING PART IN THE FORMULA THREE INTERNATIONAL RACE WHEN THE ACCIDENT HAPPENED IN THE 10TH LAP. THE RACE WAS STOPPED.

    TWO ITALIAN DRIVERS WERE INJURED, AND TWO OTHER DRIVERS WHO HAD MANAGED TO AVOID THE CRASH, RACED TO HELP COLLEAGUES TRAPPED IN THEIR CARS.

    RUSSO WAS THE THIRD RACING DRIVER TO BE BURNED TO DEATH IN JUST OVER A MONTH.
