  • Description

President Gamal Abdul Nasser of the United Arab Republic, July 25 laid the foundation stone of the new Social Insurance Organisation--- in Cairo --- to be built on the site of the old Shepheard's Hotel -- and to serve a million and a half workers.

President Nasser was welcomed by El Said Hussen El Shafie, U.A.R. Minister of Social Affairs and Planning. The ceremony was completed as Nasser laid the foundation stone.

As Nasser's motorcade drove from the site, a young student was apprehended as he dashed from the cheering crowds, pushed past the motor-cycle escort and tried to thrust a pamphlet in the President's car.

Speaking in Alexandria July 26 -- third anniversary of Egypt's nationalization of the Sues Canal, President Nasser made one of his most violent attacks on Israel. All Arabs, he said, were waiting for the next and decisive chapter of the struggle with Israel. "In the next battle we shall erase Israel". The Suez Canal belongs to the U.A.R. and Israel will not be able to impose her will on the U.A.R. he added. The President's remarks were an answer to reported statement by former Israeli Chief of Staff, Moshe Dayan, in which General Dayan contended that Israel should occupy the Sinai Peninsular and the Eastern Bank of the Suez Canal if the U.A.R. persisted in banning Israel commerce from the waterway.
