  • Description

An outsized rubber bag inflated with gasoline instead of air is being tried out on the Richardson Highway en route to Fort Greely, in Alaska, prior to Exercise Cold Bay.

The development of larger and more powerful vehicles for the Armed Forces have increased requirements for wider distribution of fuels and brought a need for improved transport methods.

This is quite a novel approach to the problem. Component parts of the transporter are a series of collapsible fabric reinforced rubber bags centred with appropriate axles in turn connected to a towing yoke. Several can be towed behind Army trucks and other equipment with no loss in cargo space of the truck body, or requirement for heavy equipment for lifting them aboard.
