    Background: AN EFFIGY OF INDIA'S PRIME MINISTER, MRS. INDIRA GANDHI, WAS HURLED TO THE GROUND OUTSIDE THE INDIAN HIGH COMMISSION IN LONDON TODAY AT THE END OF A PROTEST MARCH BY 700 SIKHS.

    THE SIKHS MARCHED IN PROTEST AGAINST THE DEATH OF ONE OF THEIR LEADERS, DHARSHAN SINGH PHERUMAN, WHO DIED ON OCTOBER 27 IN AMRITSAR, INDIA AFTER A 74-DAY FAST.

    HE HAD STARTED THE FAST TO DEMAND THE INCLUSION OF CHANDIGARH INTO THE PUNJAB. POLICE SAID THE PROTEST WAS ORDERLY AND NO ARRESTS WERE MADE.

    OUTSIDE THE INDIAN HIGH COMMISSION THE DEMONSTRATORS FLUNG THE EFFIGY OF MRS. GANDHI TO THE GROUND, WATCHED BY A NON-COMMITTAL MR. ABA PANT, INDIA'S HIGH COMMISSIONER IN GREAT BRITAIN.
