  • Description

Egyptian President Anwar Sadat flew into Tunis on Saturday (6 May) to begin three days of official talks with Tunisian President Habib Bourguiba.

A 21-gun salute boomed out for the Egyptian leader and after honouring the flag with President Bourguiba, both heads of state inspected a guard of honour. Various government, diplomatic and military representatives stood in line to greet the Egyptian President.

At the airport, President Sadat emphasised the need for Arabs "to stand together against the common enemy." Then the two leaders travelled by motorcade into Tunis where President Bourguiba later hosted a dinner in honour of his Egyptian guest.
