SYNOPSIS: In Contonou, nearly ten thousand people took part in a walk for development on Wednesday. The Minister of Public Health, M. albert Ouassa, gave a short address to the marchers before they set off on their six-mile walk.
The march was originally planned by the Minister of Rural Development, but the Minister was unable to attend at the last moment so M. Ouassa stepped in to officiate over the star of the walk. The march began at nine in the morning, the marchers carrying banners emphasising the theme of the walk and various signs to show the areas or clubs they were representing.
To pass the time while they walked the six miles, the marchers sang songs and talked among themselves. Many people turned out to watch the march...later termed by officials as a great success.
The officials later praised the people who took part in the march, and said that it was a good indication of their enthusiasm for the rural development of Dahomey.
Among the officials taking part in the march was M. d'Almeima, the Secretary for the National Campaign against Hunger. Later, he also praised the marchers for their efforts.
