  • Description

President Tito of Yugoslavia arrived at the Hague today for a four-day State visit -- the first Communist Head of State to be received officially by Holland. The 78-year-old Yugoslav leader was s accompanied by his wife.

The Presidential aircraft had been escorted to Ypenburg airbase by Dutch jet aircraft and the official Yugoslav party was welcomed by Queen Juliana and Prince Bernhard.

The major reason for the visit is believed to be President Tito and the Dutch Government's desire to see a strengthening of co-operation between the smaller countries of East and West. Another link between the two countries is the fact that some 4,500 Yugoslavs work in Holland.

One of the major topics of President Tito's talks with Dutch leaders will be the Soviet-backed call for a European security conference.
