Background: Fairy tales come to life- that was the Bologna Carnival, Feb. 5. It's a carnival with a difference, it's for the children only - at least only the kids can dress-up but everyone enjoys it.

This Children's Carnival is sponsored by the Archbishop of Bologna, Cardinal Giacomo Lercaro, and this year's theme was fairy tales.

The weather tried to dampen spirits but failed miserably. The children seem to regard a cold caught during carnival time as almost an honour - it proves that they went on intrepidly despite unfavourable conditions.

There was a good-size crowd to cheer them on and everyone seemed to be enjoying the show.
