Background: Ghana Airways received the first of two new Fokker Fellowship F28 MK 2,000 aircraft purchased form the Netherlands in Accra on Tuesday (June 4). At the ceremony marking the delivery of the medium range jet aircraft Colonel Peter Agyekum, Commissioner for Transport and Communications announced that Ghana Airways would extend its services to the United States and a number of African and European countries.
Colcnel Agvekum said efforts were being made to acquire larger aircraft of the Boeing class to augment the company's fleet.
The Fokker aircraft the second of which will be delivered at the end of this month, will be used to expand Chana's West Coast Services to Togo, Dahomey and Nigeria and start new services to Zaire. Negotiations are also under way on starting operations into Cameroon and the Gabonese Republic.
The Ghana Government have asked Fokker to establish a workshop in Ghana to train technicians.
