  • Description

CHAD'S PRESIDENT FRANCOIS TOMBALBAYE OUTLINED NATIONAL PROBLEMS AND POLICIES ON THURSDAY TO A GATHERING OF STUDENTS IN FORT LAMY.

THE PROBLEM OF MOST PRESSING IMPORTANCE EXAMINED BY THE PRESIDENT WAS THE WAVE OF BANDITRY SWEEPING THE COUNTRY.

PRESIDENT TOMALBAYE DENIED THAT THIS UNREST WAS THE RESULT OF SUBVERSIVE ACTIVITY. BUT THE BANDITS WERE HIGHLY ORGANISED AND HAD SAVAGELY VICTIMISED THE CIVILIAN POPULATION.

SUCH PROBLEMS ARE INEVITABLE IN A YOUNG AND DEVELOPING COUNTRY, HE ADDED.

THE PRESIDENT WENT ON TO DEPLORE THE ACTION OF CERTAIN STUDENTS IN JOINING CLANDESTINE POLITICAL ORGANISATIONS. HE ASKED THEM TO ABANDON SUCH ASSOCIATIONS AND TO CONCENTRATE ON THEIR STUDIES IN ORDER TO PLAY A PART IN THE COUNTRY'S DEVELOPMENT.
