  • Description

Removal men were filmed by VISNEWS June 1 lowering sections of an aeroplane from the upstairs window of an Ilford, Essex, house. Motor Engineer John Taylor had built the 'plane in the upstairs front room of his flat...for GBP450. It was being taken to an airfield for test flights.

Taylor, 36, took six months to design it.. eighteen months to build it. Once he has his 'plane in the air he will draw up a list of home construction kit parts. "It will bring flying to the working classes," he says.

During construction there was little room for furniture in the room; the wings--span 21 feet--hung on the wall, and the engine lay on the carpet.

Eva his 36 year old wife, combined the job of deputy constructor with bringing up their four year old son Tony and keeping the home going. "It took a little getting used to," she said. Now she is used to it and looks forward to flying in the single seater---at twenty-five shillings an hour.
