Background: Representatives from European and Greek youth organisations gathered in Athens on Tuesday (8 April) to discuss the situation in Cyprus and its effects on world peace.
From Greece came groups such as the Greek Communist Youth, the Centre Union Youth and Panhellenic Socialist Movement Youth, as well as Cypriot youth organisations.
The International Students Union, the World Democratic Youth Organisation, the International Christian Democrat Youth Union and the International Socialist Youth Union were among the European and international groups who sent representatives.
As their discussions proceeded, news came that the Greek Cypriot negotiator at the inter-communal talks scheduled for 25 April in Vienna -- Mr. Glafkos Clerides -- was meeting community leaders in Nicosia for talks before deciding whether or not the go to Vienna.
Mr. Clerides has come under attack from both left and right-wing Greek Cypriots recently for publicly stating that the Greek Cypriots should "see reality" following the Turkish army occupation of almost half the island last summer.
