Background: Nigeria's new Ambassador to Chad, Mr. Eladji Mohammadou Kabir Bayero, praised the Central Africa state's support of the Federal cause during the Nigerian Civil War when he presented his Credentials to President Francois Tombalbaye on Saturday.
The Chad leader, replaying to the new Ambassador, said that his landlocked country was grateful to Nigeria for providing her with a sea outlet. He called for stronger links between the two neighbouring countries.
President Tombalbaye added that the Chad Basin Commission, to which both countries belong, was the best example of their mutual co-operation and respect.
The Commission was set up to study and exploit the resources of the vast desert lake which swells with each year's rains and can flood the capital city, Fort Lamy, 30-miles away. Other members of the Commission are Niger and Cameroun.
