    Polish and Yugoslavian delegations joined representatives from more than sixty countries at the fourth anniversary of the overthrow of Emperor Haile Selassie in Ethiopia on Tuesday (12 September) The celebrations which started on Wednesday (13 September) included a parade of civilian contingents from all over Ethiopia, and a Revolution Day speech by Head of State Colonel Mengistu Haile Mariam which contained an attack on China, who have not sent a delegation. He accused China of supplying arms to Somalia which has been involved in fighting with Ethiopia, and of arming the Eritreans who are waging a war of independence against Ethiopia in the North.

    SYNOPSIS: The Polish delegation headed by Deputy Prime Minister Joseph Kepa, was greeted by a government member Major Hadiis Tadle.

    Mr. Kepa said he was pleased to attend the celebrations because the visit would give the Polish visitors an opportunity to become familiar with the life of the Ethiopian people and with developments in Socialist Ethiopia. He said he hoped that cooperation between Poland and Ethiopia would continue to grow and give strength to the international alliance between Socialist countries.

    The Yugoslavian delegation was headed by Vice-President Vido Zarkrovich. He was greeted by a military government member Major Endale Tessema. Mr Zarkrovich said Yugoslavia has supported the government in Ethiopia during it's four years in power, and its moral and material support would continue. He brought expressions of support from Yugoslavian President Josip Tito. Delegation members attended Colonel Mengistu's speech on Wednesday (13 September) when he said Ethiopia's goal is to build a Communist state. He also spoke of serious food shortages in many Ethiopian towns, which he said could only be solved by creating a collective economy controlled from Addis Ababa.
