    Background: This year's World Champion tobogganist is Herbert Thaler of Austria who won the title at Grenoble, France, Feb 8. Competitors from East Germany, Austria, Holland, Italy, Norway, West Germany, Poland, Sweden, Switzerland, Yugoslavia, Czechoslovakia and France took part.

    Conditions on the 1080 yard course were bad and there were several spills. David Moroder (Italy), was second and West German Joseph Lenz third.
