    MORELON EARNED THE TITLE WHEN HE WON THE INTERNATIONAL ONE-THOUSAND METRES SPRINT FOR THE SECOND SUCCESSIVE YEAR. MORELON IN THE FINAL HEAT DEFEATED THE CZECHOSLOVAKIAN RIDER IVAN KUCIRECK.

    MORELON IS ONE OF THE FASTEST SPRINT RIDERS IN EUROPE. HE HAS ONLY SUFFERED ONE DEFEAT IN COMPETITIONS SO FAR THIS YEAR.

    KUCIRECK, THE CZECHOSLOVAKIAN CHAMPION, YESTERDAY DEFEATED JAN JANSEN OF HOLLAND TO ENTER THE QUARTER FINAL. MORELON, IN HIS FIRST HEAT, BEAT THE EAST GERMAN RIDER, HANS KLUNKER.

    IN THE QUARTER FINALS, WATKINS OF BRITAIN BEAT PEDERSEN OF DENMARK; BOOKER, BRITAIN, BEAT KLUNKER; KUCIRECK BEAT ALSOP, ENGLAND; AND MORELON ELIMINATED CROWE, OF AUSTRALIA.

    KUCIRECK BEAT WATKINS, AND MORELON BEAT BOOKER, IN THE SEMI-FINAL.

    IN THE FINAL, MORELON COVERED THE LAST HUNDRED METRES IN 12.5 SECONDS.
