WILLIAMS. "Coming around the fifth day I was pretty fast out there. I did six flat on my heat that was my best. The final I was a little off. But hits is my first one - I am happy that I have got a new set of blocks I got in Italy, and then that will take a while of course, but it'll help me out. I don't think that the start makes so much difference because the person with the best start isn't always the one that is going to win."

REPORTER. "Would you rather run against time or run against personal competition?"

WILLIAM. "I think that good ago with adrenalin flow and personal competition is what brings time down like my 9.1 was run against people I really wanted to beat. I got a good crowd and good vibrations all the way round."

Background: United States' one-hundred-year world record holder Steve Williams thinks an 5.7-second hundred yards is possible.

Five people have returned hundred-yard times of 9.1 seconds before, but Williams' 9.1 was the fastest in the world last year.

American athletics' experts think he is capable of taking three-tenths-of-a-second off his time by better starting.

Williams is using the sixty-yard indoor race to build up his pace for an attempt to break the hundred-yard nine-second barrier.

Many United States' top athletes have turned professional but Williams, a University student, says he will not think about that step until he graduates.
