    Background: This typhoon which was named "Gloria" started her career as a tropical depression to the east of Luzon in the Philippines. By 21st September "Gloria" had grown and had graduated to the typhoon class, so the precautionary No 1 Storm Signal had to go up, which indicated that a depression or typhoon existed which might affect the locality , On 22nd September "Gloria" headed more directly towards Hong Kong and, for the first time in many years, the No 10 Storm Signal was hoisted. This signal indicated that "Hurricane or Typhoon (speed 64 knots and upwards) direction". "Gloria" was the worst storm to hit the Colony in nine years and the toll so far is 6 killed and 111 injured.
