    THE LAUNCHING, FROM THE NATIONAL AERONAUTICS AND SPACE ADMINISTRATION CENTRE AT WALLOPS ISLAND, VIRGINIA, WAS PART OF A SERIES IN WHICH T HE U.S. SUPPLIES THE ROCKET AND A FOREIGN NATION WORKS WITH THE COUNTRY ON THE EXPERIMENTAL PACKAGE IT CARRIES.

    THE AEROBEE CARRIES A 197-POUND PAYLOAD OF SPACE INSTRUMENTS FOR THE FRENCH PROGRAM. THE ROCKET REACHED A PEAK ALTITUDE OF 116 MILES BEFORE LANDING IN THE ATLANTIC OCEAN, 59 MILES FROM THE LAUNCH SITE.
