    Troops drawn from all units of the American armed forces lined the White House drive Dec. 6 when President-elect Kennedy arrived for transitional talks with President Eisenhower, who met him at the front door.

    The encounter between the oldest US President and the youngest President-elect, lasted for nearly three and a half hours. After one and a half hours private talks, the two men called in Secretary of State Herter; Defence Secretary Cates; Treasury Secretary Anderson; General Persons; President Eisenhower's assistant; and Mr. Clark Clifford whom Mr. Kennedy appointed to liaison with the outgoing administration.

    A joint statement issued afterwards said "We have had an informal personal meeting on continuing problems, particularly in the international arena, that confront and will continue to confront the Chief Executive of our nation. "It went on to say that other subjects throughout the world; American balance of payments and the position of American dollars; national security; and the White House staff Machinery. It ended with: "The Government of the United States has and will continues to seek peace with justice in freedom for all peoples."
    Answering reporters questions as he came out, Mr. Kennedy was asked:
