    Nineteen-year-old Nikolai Andrainow of the Soviet Union won the top point total in a pre-Olympic qualifying gymnastic contest in Hamburg on Saturday (May 6). Russian and West German teams competed in the city's sporthall, in a competition including performing on the met, the rings and the parallel bars. But in the end, it was Andrianow with a final score of 56.07 points.

    The Soviets also took second and third places as well. Eduard Mikaeljan was second with 56.40 points, and Malejew came in third with a total of 55.90 points.

    The winner for the West Germane was Walter Muesinger, a 23-Year-old mechanic, with a final point score of 55.55.

    Eberhard Gienger, a 21-year-old student, was one of the West Germans' high performers with an effective display of agility on the parallel bars.

    The contest gave each team plenty of opportunity to examine their own strengths -- and see their opponents' weaknesses as national squads prepare for the Munich Olympics which begin in August. It also gave managers the chance to finalise selections for their countries' teams as he date for the Olympics approaches.
