  • Description

The administrative council of HOTAFRIC--the Society for West African Tourism and Hotel Development--held a two-day meeting last week (7-8 Jan.) at Fort Lamy. The meeting was held in the Chamber of Commerce buildings.

The proceedings of the meeting were opened by the Chadian Minister of Information and Tourism, M. Alfred Dessande, who welcomed the visiting delegates from eight other West African countries on behalf of the host country.

He said the Chad Government was confident of the success of this union for the promotion and development of tourism, created in the interests of the whole region and of individual countries within it.

The president Director-General of the Society, M. Alcide Kacou, then addressed the conference, giving his report on the activities of the society to date, and progress on the projected plan which will set the targets for tourist development for the next ten years.

He also reported on the agreements signed by Hotafric with the "Gabotel" company of Libreville and International Hotel Corporation. Under the Gabotel agreement Hotafric takes over the construction and management of a 156-room international-class hotel.

Delegates approved contacts which have been established between Hotafric and various international financial organisations, notably the World Bank, which has promised substantial aid.
