  • Description

President Georges Pompidou of France arrived in Libreville, Gabon, on Thursday, February 11th, on the last leg of his five-nation official tour of French-speaking West Africa. He was met by President Albert-Bernard Bongo, and at a ceremony afterwards received the keys to the city.

France has strong interests in Gabon - not the least being the fact that her nuclear centres rely in large part on uranium from this African country - last year alone some 1,400 tons of uranium concentrate were exported to France.

The French Head of State's arrival in Libreville was filmed by Cameramen Jean Poignonec, of the VISNEWS Paris bureau, who has accompanied the Presidential tour from its departure.
