  • Description

Visnews shows dramatic scenes in the Dutch Parliament's Second Chamber, Dec 11, as the Coalition Government of Socialist Premier Dr. Drees falls.

The fierce debate was on a motion supported by the Catholic, Protestant and Liberal groups against a move by Socialist Finance Minister Hofstra to prolong the tax on cars, T.V.s and other items for another two years. The Opposition wanted an extension of only one year.

The Government was defeated by an 88 to 55 vote.

The Coalition tool office in October 1956 and its 'life' would ordinarily have lasted until the summer of 1960. This defeat may lead to dissolution of Parliament and General Elections.
