    President Moktar Ould Daddah of Mauritania this month Presided over the opening of the first meeting of the African Parliaments Union (APU) in Nouakchott, the country's capital.

    SYNOPSIS: M. Abdou Aziz Sall, President of the National Assembly, was on hand to welcome the various visiting delegations. Members of President Daddah's government and a hundred delegate form 21 different African countries attended the conference.

    The African Parliaments Union is a Constitutive Assembly which was formed at a conference in the Ivory Coast last February. The nine founding countries included Cameroun Ivory Coast, Egypt, Gabon, Mauritania, Senegal, Tunisia, Zaire and Mauritius. During the conference the Presidents of the nine nations were presented with special honorary titles.

    Four resolutions were adopted at the conference and Executive Committee elected. M. Philippe Yace, President of the Ivory Coast National Assembly was elected to head the new Committee for head the new Committee for the next ten years. The next session of the APJ will be held in March 1978, in Mauritius.
