    THE ROYAL AIR FORCE IN SINGAPORE IS TO GET A SQUADRON OF TEN GLOSTER WHITWORTH ARGOSY TRANSPORT PLANES BEFORE THE END OF JULY WHICH WOULD BE USED TO SUPPLEMENT THE TRANSPORT SERVICE IN THE COMMAND AREA.

    THE FIRST TWO OF TEN ARGOSY PLANES, THE NEUCLEUS OF NOV.215 SQUADRON OF THE ROYAL AIR FORCE FORMED IN BENSON OXFORDSHIRE, ENGLAND, THE FIRST TO BE SENT TO THE FAR EAST, LANDED AT R.A.F.CHANGI, EAST OF SINGAPORE, ON JULY 23.

    THE ARGOSY IS CAPABLE OF CARRYING SIXTY-NINE FULLY EQUIPPED MEN AND FORTY-EIGHT STRETCHERS.AIR DROPS OF UP TO 14,000 POUNDS ARE POSSIBLE, AND THERE IS PROVISION FOR THE AIRCRAFT TO BE REFUELLED IN FLIGHT.

    AS A FREIGHTER, THE ARGOSY CAN CARRY IN THE FAR EAST AREA A MAXIMUM LOAD OF 26,000 POUNDS IN ITS 3,680 CUBIC FEET CAPACITY HOLD, AND A REPRESENTATIVE SELECTION OF MILITARY TRUCKS CAN BE TRANSPORTED.

    IT IS POWERED BY FOUR ROLLS-ROYCE DART 101 TURBOPROPS, AND HAS AN OPERATING SPEED OF 265 MILES PER HOUR AND AN UNUSUAL TWIN FUESELAGE CONFIGURATION.THE 215 SQUADRON IS COMMANDED BY WING COMMANDER ANTHONY TALBOT-WILLIAMS.
