Background: The Lang Engineering Corporation of the United States is to build a 12 million dollars (4.8 million sterling) (US $12, million dollars) in Togo to process and can tomato and pineapple juice.
Initially pineapple juice production is to be 1,500 tons a year for local consumption. Later when production is stepped up to 20,000 tons, pineapple juice will also be exported.
Work will start on the canning factory next year.
The agreement which was signed in the Togo capital Lome last Thursday (May 24) by the American firm's senior executive, Mr. R. Temple and M. Henri Dogo, Secretary of State at the Togo Presidency for Commerce, Planning and industry, is being partially financed by the American Export-Import Bank.
