Background: In Iran the fifth Shiraz Festival of Arts has just come to an end, with a final concert attended by Empress Farah. The concert took place in a theatre in the ruins of ancient Persepolis, where preparations are now far advanced for next month's celebrations of the Persian Empire's 2,500th anniversary.
The concert was given by the Residence Orchestra of the Hauge, conducted by Bruno Maderna, and included music by Stravinsky and two works by Bruno Maderna himself, one commissioned by the festival and dedicated to the Empress. After the concert she met the Italian composer-conductor and the soloists.
