SYNOPSIS: President Assad's visit to the United Arab Emirates was the final stopover on his five-nation tour. At Abu Dhabi he was met by U.A.E. President Sheik Zaid Bin Sultan Al-Nahayan, Government Ministers and senior army officers. He had just flown in from Doha, and talks during the day followed the theme of the rest of his Gulf tour .... an exchange of views on the current situation in the Arab world in the light of recent developments.
According to an official Government statement from Abu Dhabi, President Assad's tour of the Gulf had been successful. And in the talks between the two leaders which followed, the Syrian President was believed to have explained to Sheik Zaid the reason for his opposition to Egyptian President Sadat's peace moves towards Israel. President Assad left Abu Dhabi for home on Monday (12 December).
