  • Description

All Israel was shocked recently when it was learned that a man had thrown a bomb into the centre of the Israel parliament, wounding several leading figures in this all-Jewish body.

The incident occurred on October 29 and flying splinters severely wounded the Minister for Religious Affairs, Mr. Moshe Shapiro, and the Minister of Transport, Mr. Moshe Carmel.

The Prime Minister, Mr. David Ben Gurion, and the Foreign Minister, Mrs Golds Myer, were both lightly wounded and also had to receive hospital treatment.

Arrested soon after the incident, 25 year-old Moshe ben Yascev Dueg was taken before Jerusalem magistrate, Y. Basak, and charged with attempted murder.

After Dueg had pleaded guilty and asked for bail, he was remanded in custody for a further 15 days to enable the police to complete their investigations.

Dueg, who was taken to court handcuffed to the escorting policemen, was later taken back to the Police Headquarters in Jerusalem.
