Background: All five Fischer quintuplets are finally home, three and one-half months after their birth in Aberdeen, South Dakota (western U.S.). Mary Ann Fischer and Mary Catherine Fischer left the hospital Saturday (21 December) and joined the three other quints -- two girls and a boy -- and the five older Fischer children. Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Fischer and their ten children plan a quiet Christmas in the large nine-room house they have moved into since the quints' birth.
Mary Ann and Mary Catherine were bundled up in pink blankets for the short ride home to protect them against the cold. It was forty-three degrees (Fahrenheit) below zero in Aberdeen on Saturday. Mrs. Fischer was accompanied by a nurse who carried one of the children.
Mrs. Fisher's mother and a hired helper will be on hand for some weeks to help with the children. All five quints are reported in excellent health.
