    TRANSCRIPT: NATHAN: "In a few days this ship will be renamed the Peace Ship. We will try to raise enough funds in this country to pay for the ship and in three weeks time we will said to the United States to raise enough funds to equip it with radio equipment. Within a hundred days I hope to be able to broadcast the first message from the Mediterranean to the people of Israel and the Arab countries in the hope that this station will help to ease the tension in the area and bring people to solve problems through understanding through generosity through magnanimity, rather than through war. This ship will be manned by an international crew. There will be Israelis, there will be Arabs, there will be Frenchmen, Englishmen and Americans. I hope that when we have the right equipment, and I believe that this radio station will be very effective in this area, because the radio is one of the most powerful means of communication in the Middle East".

    Background: Self-proclaimed Middle East peacemaker, Mr. Abie Nathan, has bought a cargo ship in which he plans to set up a radio station to broadcast appeals for peace throughout the Middle East. Mr. Nathan bought the 350-ton ex-coastal freighter, Cite, which was lying at anchor at Delft, north of Rotterdam.

    Mr. Nathan, a 42 year old Tel Aviv restaurant-owner, flew to Holland after an unsuccessful attempt to discuss the Arab-Israeli conflict with President Nasser, said the radio would transmit in Hebrew, Arabic, French and English.

    His radio ship, which is to be called the "Voice of Peace" will be anchored 12 miles off the Israeli coast. Final cost is expected to be about GBPstg. 102,000 which will be raised by committees in New York, Paris and Amsterdam.
