INTERIOR Knesset: Debate begins, G.V. Chamber, Rabin enters. Rabin in office at Knesset beginning English statement after speech. Hammer speaks.
Rabin speaks after Knesset appearance in English:he explains what happened today in the Knesset, says that the states that cabinet has collective responsibility & this must be maintained... breach in time of crisis is not acceptable.... Government can make no compromise ..... with minority Government there is no alternative to early elections... He points out that as long as the Government is in power (even in a caretaker role) there should be no need for illusions anywhere in the world that its policies will change... they will be exactly as they have been All rumours to the contrary have no realistic basis. He believes crisis in the long run will be beneficial to Israel, providing stronger & healthier Government.
Democratic Party leader Professor Yigaq Yadin speaks to camera. Says Rabin position is intolerable. He believes his democratic movement (a newly formed Party) was party responsible for Rabin's dilemma; "we are going to exploit this situation to the utmost & emerge as the real alternative to the present Government."
Likud leader Menachem Begin says: the Government has lost the support of the majority in the Knesset & should resign. New elections should be held by the end of May 77 at latest.
