    WHAT WILL BE THE WORLD'S BIGGEST SHIP, THE 205,000-TON IDEMITSU MARU, IS UNDER CONSTRUCTION AT YOKOHAMA, JAPAN.

    THE GIANT OIL TANKER IS DUE TO BE LAUNCHED IN SEPTEMBER AND SO FAR THE CONSTRUCTION WORK IS UP TO SCHEDULE, WITH 30 PER CENT ALREADY COMPLETED. THE BOW PORTION WAS BUILT SEPARATELY AND JOINED TO THE HULL YESTERDAY (THURSDAY).

    IF THE LAUNCHING DATE IS AS PLANNED THE ENTIRE CONSTRUCTION WILL HAVE TAKEN 210 DAYS.

    THE IDEMITSU MARU WILL BE 1,100 FEET (342 METRES) LONG, 164 FEET (50 METRES) WIDE AND 76 FEET (23 METRES) DEEP. TOTAL COST WILL BE GBP5,400,000 ($ 15,120,000).

    THE TANKER WILL BE FULLY AUTOMATIC WITH A CREW OF ONLY 32. JAPANESE SHIP YARDS HAVE ORDERS FOR SEVERAL GIANT TANKERS, INCLUDING SOME OF 300,000 TONS, ONE OF WHICH IS TO BE ALREADY BY 1968.
