    A TECHNICAL TEACHERS' TRAINING COLLEGE, DESCRIBED AS THE FIRST OF ITS KIND IN AFRICA, SOUTH OF THE SAHARA, WAS OPENED IN KUMASI ON FRIDAY (JANUARY 20). BUILT AT A COST OF GBP890-THOUSAND STERLING, THE COLLEGE WILL TRAIN TEACHERS OF ALL ACADEMIC STANDARDS. THEY WILL TEACH TECHNICAL SUBJECTS IN SECONDARY SCHOOLS AND OTHER INSTITUTIONS IN GHANA. THE CEREMONY WAS PERFORMED BY MR. A.K. DEKU, THE MEMBER OF THE NATIONAL LIBERATION COUNCIL RESPONSIBLE FOR EDUCATION.

    THE PROJECT WAS FINANCED BY A DUTCH COMPANY, WHO HAVE ALSO UNDERTAKEN TO OFFER TWO ANNUAL TRAVEL GRANTS TO TEACHERS TRAINED AT THE COLLEGE TO UNDERGO A STUDY TOUR OF THE NETHERLANDS. MR. E. L. HECHTERMANS, THE NETHERLANDS AMBASSADOR TO GHANA, WAS PRESENT AT THE OPENING.
